Participants arrive with a working Jetstream2 Magnum Kubernetes cluster and learn practical “day‑2” patterns to run real services: edge routing with Traefik, stable naming via Jetstream2 DNS, TLS with cert-manager, and a storage triathlon using Cinder-backed persistent volumes, Manila shared filesystems, and Jetstream2 object storage mounted via the Mount point CSI driver. Attendees form teams of three, complete progressively harder quests, and competefor prizes by delivering a resilient, documented, reproducible deployment. Advanced teams can opt into stretch tracks: auto-scaling JupyterHub (leveraging theMagnum/Cluster API cluster autoscaler), bring your own app,BYO DNS, and GitOps (Argo CD). This supports PEARC26’s theme by emphasizing reusable operational foundations that teams can bring back to their local research communities.
Session Prerequisites: Intermediate
Target Audience: Research software engineers (RSEs), CI/RCD facilitators, platform support staff, and advanced users who want
practical Kubernetes-on-research- cloud patterns.
Please review the PEARC tutorial details for full requirements.
